Challenge

Rune War Battle Legends is a free-to-play mobile MOBA with real-time PvP, multiple game modes, seasonal leagues, and a deep progression system. The design scope was unusually broad: the game required a cohesive visual language across gameplay UI, branding, promotional materials, in-game items, skill effects, and runes, all needing to feel like one unified product rather than a collection of separate deliverables. The challenge was maintaining that consistency at scale while shipping fast across a live game environment

Approach

I owned the full visual direction of the project end to end. This included the complete UI/UX system across approximately 600 screens, the branding and promotional suite, all icons and in-game item design, and visual effects for skills, runes, and collectibles. I also took on technical artist responsibilities, building and implementing effects directly rather than handing off specs. Working across every layer of the product gave me a rare ability to make decisions that held together visually from the App Store listing down to a single ability animation frame.

The result was a visually cohesive game shipped across all major mobile platforms with a design system robust enough to support ongoing seasonal content without visual inconsistency. Owning the full pipeline from brand to in-engine effects meant zero translation loss between design intent and final implementation. The promotional materials, item designs, and UI system are now the foundation the team builds every new content update on.
