Challenge
Designing for security without scaring people away is one of the hardest problems in product design. Authena needed to make blockchain-based identity verification feel approachable, a technology most users had never interacted with, wrapped around a process that's inherently sensitive: scanning government documents and capturing biometrics. The risk was clear: one moment of confusion or distrust in the flow, and users abandon entirely. The product required a UI that communicated safety and simplicity at the same time, without dumbing down the technical gravity of what was happening under the hood.
Approach
I focused on breaking the verification journey into the smallest possible steps, making each screen answer one question and ask for one action. The onboarding flow (scan passport, take a selfie, set a PIN) was sequenced to build trust progressively rather than front-loading friction. Visually, I leaned into a clean, open aesthetic with a blue palette that signals reliability and tech confidence, while soft shapes and generous whitespace kept the experience from feeling clinical or intimidating. Every transition in the flow was designed to feel like forward momentum, not a gate. The brand identity followed the same logic: minimal, modern, with a network-node mark that subtly communicates connection and verification without requiring explanation.
